Thank you Chair,

We request the Council to evaluate if the ban of the Jewish and Islamic slaughtering, in some European countries, can be considered as a violation of Human Rights.

We claim that ideological and scientific premises to ban Islamic and Jewish slaughtering are wrong and have fundamental defects.

The Jewish and Islamic rules of slaughter are not "religious" but they are part of the legal system; they are laws that Jews and Muslims are obliged to respect and, therefore, they cannot be subject to the dialogue or comparison. By their very nature, these legal rules, which have been given them by the Creator, cannot be changed. The only way to change these laws is to destroy them or to destroy who practice them.

The destruction of the Jewish, Islamic and indigenous rules has already been made over the centuries with the disastrous result of destroying portions of environment, peoples and species, in some cases until their extinction. This is racism, anti-Semitism, and Islamophobia.

To compare different practices and cultures is factually incorrect. We can only say that Jews and Muslims are horrified at the thought of killing any animal by the gun or the gas chamber or the electroshock or left in agony as it is permitted notwithstanding. We can only say that Jews and Muslims are horrified at the thought of eating blood.

To extrapolate the theme of slaughtering from the suffering of animals by factory farms and to concentrate only in the moments of death in order to arbitrarily determine that to die with stunning is less painful, is an unscientific and mystifying action.

To extrapolate the traditional rules of slaughter from the overall and holistic context of the Jewish and Islamic rules, (such as dietary rules, rules on compassionate behaviour toward animals, resting rules, rules on the neighbour), is an unacceptable operation, also from a methodological and scientific point of view. For Jews and Muslims the law establishes the rules of slaughter but also the obligation to be compassionate towards animals and not to make them suffer, not to eat the blood, not to eat living animals and animals not allowed.

We express our solidarity to the Jews and Muslims, that demonstrated together in Amsterdam, against the ban of the Islamic and Jewish slaugthering.
